Meet Serotonin, The Awesome Neurotransmitter
Hello, it’s Serra here. Umm, willkommen?
Right now I am, as the representative of Serotonin from The Neurotransmitter Family, going to tell you a lot of stuff about serotonin. Stay tune.

The Neurotransmitters Travel Agency's Members |
To give impulse from one neurone to the others (there are billions, apparently), impulses have to travel through a synapse. According to Google, a synapse is a junction between two never cells, consisting a minute gap across which impulses pass by diffusion of a neurotransmitter. Neurones located before synapse are called presynaptic neurone; while those neurones located after synapse are called postsynaptic neurone. Hoho, things grow interesting from now on.
To proceed things smoothly, impulse usually travelled using ‘Neurotransmitter Travel Agency’, so their journey would be fun and arrive at the destination (like the brain, or sympathetic nerve system) precisely. And serotonin is just one of the awesome neurotransmitter that I am proud of taking contribution on her premiere campaign.
But wait a minute. What is neurotransmitter?
Really, it is a bunch of awesome chemicals who has the role of a messenger (chemical messenger). According to Wikipedia, the neurotransmitter is an endogenous chemical that enables transmission. It is released from synaptic vesicles in synapse to the synaptic cleft; when they are received by the receptors on the target cells.
Enough of hard stuff. Anyway, thank you so much for amino acids who contributed the making of neurotransmitter, and now I am going to introduce you the Awesome Serotonin.

Serotonin, the happy chemical |
Serotonin, like another neurotransmitter, has her own speciality. Found mostly in brain, bowels, and blood platelets, serotonin, who is also known as 5-HT (hydroxytryptamine) apparently one of the busiest neurotransmitter in neurotransmitter agency. Her assignments on constricting smooth cells, transmitting impulse between nerve cells, regulate the cyclic body, aaaaaanndd control mood and behaviours have herself declared popular as one of the key roles of in the central nervous system. Great job, serotonin!
Thanks to Maurice M. Rapport’s discovery in 1948, serotonin’s important role in the coordination system has finally come to the light. And I, Serra, is trying to tell you how awesome Serotonin is. No kidding.
Manufactured in brain and intestines; the majority of serotonins can be found in the Gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system, like a brain. Don’t meet her outside, though, she cannot pass the blood-brain barrier.
But, it is always best to make an appointment first if you want to meet serotonin; because she is just so busy .

Association between Serotonin Level and Depression |
Another thing that makes serotonin loved is because of her ability to affect mood behaviour. Study and countless research show how low serotonin level leading to depression. Serotonin is also believed to have an association with obesity and Parkinson’s disease. And, serotonin could induce a nausea feeling to tell you that your food is fishy; doesn’t mean your food contains fishy, but rather something suspicious and evil lurking behind your food. Sugoi, serotonin-san!
Anyway, that is all I can tell you about serotonin; she’s just too awesome to be described in a page!
But, were you interested more in this serotonin stuff, be sure to check it on Wikipedia, (www.en.wikipedia.org/Serotonin/) and http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/kc/serotonin-facts-232248 , as they really offer you an intensive and serious explanation of serotonin.
